How to Recast a Video With AI (Motion Transfer Guide)
A step-by-step guide to Genjutsu AI Motion Transfer: how to film the source clip, choose reference images and write prompts that keep the motion and camera intact.

Motion Transfer replaces the people in a clip with new characters while keeping every movement, head turn and camera move. The model does the heavy lifting, but a few choices before you press Generate make a big difference.
Step 1: Film a clip the model can read
- Length: 5–30 seconds, with no single shot longer than 15 seconds.
- Framing: keep the person clearly visible; avoid heavy motion blur and very dark scenes.
- One idea per clip: a single action — a dance phrase, a product demo, a walk-and-talk — transfers more cleanly than a busy montage.
- Format: MP4 or MOV up to 100MB. A normal phone recording is fine.
Step 2: Choose reference images
Add one reference image per character, in left-to-right order of the people in your clip.
- Use a clear, front-facing image with the whole character visible.
- Illustrated, cartoon and 3D characters work especially well.
- Only use real people if you have their permission — public figures and minors are not allowed.
Step 3: Write a short prompt (optional)
The prompt is optional for Motion Transfer, but it helps when your clip has more than one person or when something else should change. Say what must stay the same:
The person becomes the 3D mascot from the reference image. Keep every gesture and the handheld camera.
Replace the dancer with the anime character in the reference. Keep the choreography and timing exactly.
More copy-ready prompts are on the Genjutsu AI prompts page.
Step 4: Pick a resolution and generate
Choose 768p for drafts and 1080p for finals. You see the exact credit cost before you start; renders take a few minutes, and failed jobs are refunded automatically.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| The new character looks different from the reference | Use a cleaner, front-facing reference image |
| Wrong person was replaced | Order reference images left to right, or name who becomes whom in the prompt |
| Jittery result | Use a steadier source clip with less motion blur |
